Chief Jay Szesnat

Jay Szesnat graduated from High School in Broward County, he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice from Lynn University in Boca Raton, Florida. Jay then pursued and obtained a dual Master’s Degree in Public Administration and Criminal Justice from Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

Jay Szesnat began his law enforcement career at the age of 18, hired as a Dispatcher with the Town of Hillsboro Beach Police Department. Attending the Broward County Police Academy, he completed his certification training and became a sworn Police Officer. Throughout his career, he’s achieved advancement through the ranks being promoted to Corporal, Sergeant, Lieutenant, Major, and ultimately Chief of Police. His professional career achievements include participation and oversight for Accreditation, Patrol Supervision, Criminal Investigation, Evidence, Professional Standards, Communications Resources, Training/Instruction and Command Staff.

  • Nova Southeastern University/Broward Sheriff’s Office Executive Leadership
  • 23 rd Supervisor Institute Leadership

Chief Szesnat currently serves as the Palm Beach/Broward County Area Representative for the Florida Chapter of the FBI National Academy.

Chief Szesnat also serves on the board for the Broward Chiefs of Police.
